Healthcare workers in Mozambique are on the frontline of an escalating crisis, facing increasing threats to their safety amid ongoing political instability. Reports from across the country indicate rising levels of harassment, intimidation, and physical violence against medical professionals, particularly those treating victims of political violence or working in conflict-prone areas.

SADHR has expressed grave concern over this alarming trend, calling for urgent intervention to safeguard the welfare of healthcare workers. “Healthcare workers are the backbone of any society, and their safety is non-negotiable,” said a SADHR spokesperson.

In response, SADHR has launched a solidarity campaign to support these workers. The organization is:

  • Providing legal aid and psycho-social support to affected healthcare professionals.
  • Engaging with regional and international human rights bodies to amplify calls for justice.
  • Advocating for the Mozambican government to implement policies protecting medical professionals from persecution.

SADHR emphasizes that healthcare workers should never be targets of violence and that protecting them is essential to safeguarding public health in Mozambique.
